Chicago- Las Vegas April 14 2012
New airline for me today: since the times were convenient I chose for the very first time to fly Spirit Airlines.
Only after i had already booked my flight my husband actually told me that Spirit is almost like Ryanair in Europe, which i absolutely dislike.
As far as food they don't offer you anything at all: you even pay for water...they only thing that is still free on Spirit Airlines is... ice! Americans can give up anything but their beloved ice!
So, I decided to try and make this experience as much comfortable as possible: booked a mercedes car for airport transfers, paid extra to select our seats right in front of the aircraft and paid for additional luggage as they only allow you 1 small carry on, which is totally absurd.
And I have to say I managed to make everything quite pleasant. With the quite high price I paid for advanced seats selection and carry on luggages, I surely over paid for this flight in the end by it was worth it: i don't trade comforts for anything!
Seats are not so bad and as I have noone next to me I have some extra space. Also as people have to pay for carry on they brought much less items with them and therefore there is plenty of space for my 2 hand luggages on the over head locker: I could have actually fitted 3 if I wanted to.
I promised to myself to always pack light, but i couldn't this time as Vegas requires many different types of outfits, so I'm bringing formal clothes for the business meetings, elegant clothes for the evenings, sport outfits just in case, bathing suits for the swimming pool, plus of course all the matching shoes and handbags...and a quite extensive beauty case (I only use organic products and not the ones they give you at the hotel...unless they are L'Occitaine).
This has been so far quite a good flight and it's so funny that they have right by the pilot cabin signs such as: - Never let all your Vegas stories fly- and - Our cabins are pressurized to seal in Vegas secrets- and there is an ad for a website that helps you decides which stories are ok to share after visiting Vegas: VisitLasVegas.com/Spirit.
A very friendly flight attendant just asked me what am I reading on my kindle ( yes I have with me both kindle and Ipad: they are now my inseparable flight gadgets and help me use the time I'm in the flight, doing something either fun or productive) and I told her I'm reading The Independent (a British newspaper) and she replied that she just finished to read "The Hunger games" and she asked me if I read it too... To her disappointment I told her I didn't read it and I'm still thinking what that book has to do with The Independent ( I watched the silly movie almost by accident and don't see the connection...lol...but maybe I'm missing something?).
Almost in Vegas now and so looking forward to the sunshine and the high temperatures!
