Chicago-London BA Jan 10 2012

For quite a few flights I didn’t have the inspiration to write anything, everything felt pretty smooth lately and today seemed one of those tranquil flights, until they announced a 30 min delay and a full flight (in the middle of the week and in January?!).

But let’s starts since the beginning.

My flight was supposed to be at 8.35pm, and I arrived at the airport at 6pm. It was rush hour, so I had to leave early just in case, but for some reason the highway was pretty much free so I arrived earlier than I wanted.

Since O'Hare airport is one of the worse in the world (you really don’t want to arrive too early there), in fact there is absolutely nothing, no shops, no nice bars, no restaurants and forget about a spa…-I know I got so pampered with Heatrow airport and the little cute Airport in Venice-, I decided to seat at the only bar that has some quite normal seats, just outside the security check area and enjoy a Baileys. I am more the type of person who would have a nice coffee or tea with a cake, but they have no idea what that is at O'Hare airport, so not much choice unfortunately.

Anyway, once I reached the security line, there were 4 super long queues, so I walked to the first class line, cutting through the other lines to reach the first class. They don’t ask you if you are first class if you are well dressed and if they do ask you if you have a first class ticket, just say “yes” and give that person a look that says “hey, don’t you see I am a first class?”.

All good and smooth until I got to my seat and to my horror a baby was sitting next to me. I guess my face said it all and the mother of the baby noticed my huge disappointment of course.

Even well before take off that baby and another one behind were crying like no tomorrow (just the concert I was so not hoping for)…I am sure that at least half of the people in the plane wanted to strangle them and their parents.

I am sitting in the emergency seat row (which I carefully selected myself at the on line check in): can I know since when babies are allowed on those seats? Aren’t people sitting here supposed to be able to open the door in case of an emergency and understand the instructions? I am so tempted to ask the flight attendant how a 2 years old will open the door in case of an emergency in her opinion, but since the flight is full my complaint wouldn’t make any difference as they wouldn’t know in any case where to put this family and their screaming baby.

Oh well, as soon as I finish to write my article I will put ear plugs, lay my head on my soft pillow, wear my eyes shadow and forget about the existance of this noisy family…hopefully.

A strong suggestion: BA why don’t you create a family seats area? I honestly don’t understand why normal passengers should be disturbed during their long flight, which they paid about $1000 or more!!

On a good note, they seem to have refurbished the Shop catalogue. Plenty of nice things to purchase…I would go for the Bottega Gold, an elegant bottle of Italian sparkling wine. They even have a spy pen which records and take pictures: this would be a very nice 007 present.

And while I am about to close my laptop someone, not sure who just took his shoes off…the smell is terrible…!!

Another suggestion to BA: please tell those customers to put their shoes back on. To infest the plane with toxic smells it is almost like a terrorist attack to the poor passengers and should be taken as a serious offense...for real!!

I am so going to enjoy this flight looks like…

Looking forward to arriving in London where I will stay in a lovely hotel in Knightsbridge and hopefully recover from this flight.
