"Exegi monumentum aere perennius
regalique situ pyramidum altius
quod non imber edax
non aquilo impotens
possit diruere
aut innumerabilis annorum series
et fuga temporum"
Horace could not explain this better: "Art gives you the immortality".
If we write, paint, create music, sing... in an excellent and exceptional way we will never die.
Shakespeare, Picasso, Baudelaire, Chopin, Luciano Pavarotti and Horace himself among so many others will be alive forever.
This is something so powerful that just very few people can achieve during their lives: the rest will leave this world like they never actually came...quite sad I would say...
I don't know how important it is to be immortal, perhaps it isn't, but Horace poem has been in my head since I was 14 and I know it by heart...it means something to me that right now I can't explain.
Sometimes I wish we could just live of our Art: perhaps there would be so many special people to discover, people that now are busy ...doing nothing...busy making money to pay mortgages, cars, clothes...and forget that life is not that...life is Art, life is Beauty, life is a magic gift!
